Exodus 17:14-16 King James Version (KJV)
14 And the LORD said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.
15 And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovahnissi:
16 For he said, Because the LORD hath sworn that the LORDwill have war with Amalek from generation to generation.
Exodus 17:14-16 New Century Version (NCV)
14 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Write about this battle in a book so people will remember. And be sure to tell Joshua, because I will completely destroy the Amalekites from the earth.”
15 Then Moses built an altar and named it The LORD Is My Banner. 16 Moses said, “I lifted my hands toward the LORD’s throne. The LORD will fight against the Amalekites forever.”

14 To remember where and what God has brought us thru is important, God can let our experiences help others. Amalekites were to be wiped out, them going in and doing this was the way God was bringing judgment on them. Joshua was in charge of the army.
15 Moses built an altar, this means he went to worship the Lord. We need to make altars to the Lord in our life, we need to take time to worship Him, we need our lives to be fully devoted to Him.
16 Moses lifted his hands to the sky because that was a sign of praising God who was seated on His throne. The fight of the Lord against them was not to go on because their judgment had come. Judgment day will come and the only hope we have is thru Jesus being our Lord.
